the little guy at Project Wildlife

I was driving home the other day and in the alley behind A Street near 25th I saw a motionless little bird in the middle of the road. I stopped to check it out. It was alive but not really moving. I wasn’t sure what to do but I knew if I didn’t do anything it would definitely be run over or become cat food. I had no idea what kind of bird it was but it had webbed feet which surprised me. At first I just moved it out of the road, but I knew that would only postpone feline carnage. I called my bird expert friend who told me about Project Wildlife. They take in injured and orphaned animals in San Diego county. I wrapped the little guy in a towel and put him in my front seat and drove him over to the facility. They were super cool and took him in. Turns out he was an eared grebe! When I surfed at Scripps two days ago I saw a bunch of eared grebes in the surf! Project Wildlife sent me an email the other day telling me he’s doing well.

Help Project Wildlife

Of course there is one individual who happens to live under the same roof as me who was none too pleased with my rescue efforts…
